Poland's Swiatek beats Jabeur to win her first US Open. 21-year-old Iga Swiatek, world number one claimed her second Grand Slam title of 2022 at Flushing Meadows, defeating Tunisia's Ons Jabeur 6-2, 7-6 (7/5)

 

 In another grim performance in a final, the young Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek defeated the Tunisian Ons Jabeur this Saturday (10.09.2022) to lift her first US Open title and third Grand Slam of her career. 

Swiatek, the world number one, beat Jabeur, who'll be number two on Monday, 6- 2 and 7- 6(7/5) in one hour and 51 twinkles of play on the center court of Flushing Meadows( New York). 

 

 The Polish, 21 year old and double champion of Roland Garros( 2020 and 2022), remains intractable in the tests, with a full palm in the last 10 she has played, without giving up a single set. 

"I don't know how I managed it, '' assured the young Polish woman at the award ceremony. Arriving in New York, "I didn't expect much. It was a challenging time," she recalled. “I had to be focused and this tournament was very challenging because New York is so noisy, so crazy, there are so many temptations in the city, inspiring people that I have met. It is really incredible for me and I am very proud that I managed it mentally”, she claimed.

 

 On the other hand, Jabeur, runner- up in July at Wimbledon, missed her chance to be the first Arab and African tennis player to lift a Grand Slam title. The 28- time-old Tunisian crushed a brilliant launch from Swiatek, who took the first set in half an hour, and battled in the second until forcing the tiebreak, in which she had a 4- 4 lead. 5.

" I have really tried, but Iga hasn't made it easy for me," She conceded." She deserved to win today. I don't like her very much today, but it's okay," she said with a slight smile." I am going to keep working hard and we are going to get this title soon."
