Dr. Feelgood guitarist Wilko Johnson passes away at age 75

Wilko Johnson, the guitarist for the British punk rock group Dr. Feelgood in the 1970s, passed away at the age of 75.

Johnson died on Monday at his home, according to a statement posted on Johnson's Twitter account. Nothing further was mentioned.

Early in 2013, Johnson said he was starting a farewell tour after receiving a diagnosis of advanced pancreatic cancer. He had major surgery and was confirmed cancer-free a year later.

Johnson, an Essex native from Canvey Island, gained notoriety with Dr. Feelgood, a band known for their impetuous rock and guitar playing that influenced English punk. In 1980, he later became a member of Ian Dury & The Blockheads before focusing on his Wilko Johnson Band.

In the popular television series "Game of Thrones," Johnson played the executioner Ilyn Payne.
