Mourning in the hip-hop community. Rapper Takeoff, one of three members of the well-known Atlanta group Migos, was slain last Halloween night in a shooting at a nightclub in Houston, Texas, in the United States.

According to the TMZ portal, the incidents took place at around 2:30 in the morning during a dice game in a bowling alley that reportedly included another band member, Quavo. The same report claims that Takeoff, whose actual name is Kirshnik Ball and who is 28 years old, passed away instantly after being shot in the head.

The same reports claim that Quavo was uninjured while two other persons were shot and brought to the hospital. The sole individual who has been confirmed dead by Houston police is a black man in his 20s. He also acknowledged the existence of two wounds.

A standard southern trap

Takeoff, who was born in 1994 in Lawrenceville, an urban neighbourhood of Atlanta, Georgia, established the group Migos alongside his uncle Quavo and his cousin Offset. It is among the most prominent hip-hop groups of the past decade. Together, they began the project back in 2008, and throughout the course of these 14 years, they have been successfully able to establish themselves as one of the most well-known figures in American rap while simultaneously maintaining a positive reputation with critics.

Their contribution to the rise in popularity of a hip-hop subgenre called trap is one reason for their success. Atlanta and the surrounding areas are the core of this 90s-era genre, which is distinguished by its cruder sound, smug, dry lyrics, and usage of auto-tune or metrics. simpler than traditional rap.

As a result, Migos originated from this genre and were among the groups that were most adept at establishing it in the most commercial setting, starting with the success of the song Versace in 2013 that peaked at the top of the US charts at the time. The fact that Drake, a then-popular rapper, borrowed the song for one of his remixes, as is typical in these situations, helped the group become famous.

However, the Georgian band only became a global sensation in 2016. The song "Bad and Boujee," a collaboration with Lil Uzi Vert, peaked at number one in the US. His reputation and success were further solidified with the albums Culture, Culture II, and Culture III (released in 2017, 2018, and 2021, respectively).
