Jennifer Shah, a reality show performer, was given a 78 month prison term for running a nationwide telemarketing fraud scheme.
Jen Shah, a star of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, was given a 78-month jail term after pleading guilty to a conspiracy to commit wire fraud by a New York judge. She was also given five years of supervised release.
Shah was sentenced on Friday in Manhattan Federal Court in front of a packed courtroom by US District Judge Sidney H. Stein, who also presided over Shah's guilty plea in July 2022. The judge noted in his opening remarks that people see past Shah's on-screen persona and attributed the popularity to his reality TV stardom.
"The role of Jen Shah on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is just that, a role," Stein said. "I guess that's why the courtroom is so packed today." "People shouldn't mistake the person in front of me for the role she plays in a television show," he said.
Shah, who was detained in March 2021 and initially entered a not-guilty plea, was a part of a widespread telemarketing fraud scam that victimised thousands of victims, many of them were elderly or in vulnerable situations. The controversial reality star got a six-and-a-half-year sentence, which is less than the ten-year sentence that federal prosecutors requested for her in a December 2022 filing that described her as the "integral leader of a vast telemarketing fraud scheme that victimised thousands of innocent people." Shah had asked for a three-year sentence reduction.
At her court appearance, Shah expressed regret for her actions. Shah said, "I apologise. "My conduct has hurt innocent individuals. I want to apologise and let you know that I'm working hard to earn the money necessary to make amends.
On February 17, Shah will start serving her sentence in a prison in the Texas region.
