Nikki Haley, a former South Carolina governor and US ambassador to the UN, made her intentions to run for president of the United States in the 2024 elections.

Haley is a descendant of an Indian immigrant. After graduating from Clemson University with an accounting degree and working for a waste management company, she later joined her family's clothing boutique.

Thus, the former governor joins party rival Donald Trump, who served as her boss when she was the UN ambassador, as the second Republican contender to attempt to have Joe Biden removed from the White House.

Although Haley previously stated that she would not run against Trump if he decided to run again, her messaging has since changed to emphasise the need for the nation to "look at a different route."

Haley, 51, recently wrote on her Twitter account, "It's time for a new generation, it's time for new leadership, it's time to take back our country. America is worth fighting, and the fight is only beginning, she stated.

Her first electoral success came in 2004, when she was elected to the state House of Representatives. After serving three terms, she was elected governor in 2010, becoming the first woman and person of colour to hold the office and, at 38, the youngest governor in the country.

Since leaving her position as UN ambassador in 2018, Haley has lived with her family on Kiawah Island and is a registered voter in Charleston County. She served as governor of Carolina from 2011 to 2017, and the report claims that she has already told Trump of her plan to run for the Republican nomination.
