The top member of the women's soccer task committee referred to FIFA's selection of Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima as the first global fan ambassador as "insensitive" on Tuesday. This came five months before the Women's World Cup.

Is this the ambassador we need to engage fans as the World Cup gets closer, seriously FIFA? Moya Dodd, who participated in the campaign to have her native Australia and New Zealand selected as the co-hosts of the upcoming women's competition, tweeted about it.

Dodd, a longtime supporter of women's soccer and a former member of the FIFA executive committee, shared the glitzy photos from Lima's 2.4 million-follower Twitter account. Dodd, a former player for the Australian national team, also made reference to recent rumours that FIFA would choose to make the Saudi Arabian tourism board the official sponsor of the competition, which starts on July 20.

"The marketing plan has me stumped, to be honest. Does FIFA want to send the first LGBTQ-friendly group to "Visit Saudi Arabia"? Dodd wrote. Lima and FIFA President Gianni Infantino were pictured together on Monday at a gala event in Paris.

About her new position, Lima tweeted, "This means the world to me. It is a huge honour to be a part of the FIFA family, Lima wrote on Instagram, where she has 15.4 million followers.
