Mary Quant, the creator of the miniskirt who made it widely accessible to the public, passes away. In the 1960s, Quant had a significant impact. She is regarded with opening up fashion to the broader population with her exquisite and colorful creations.

This Thursday, 93-year-old British fashion designer Mary Quant passed away. In her sphere, the realm of fashion, this businesswoman is equated with miniskirts. She is credited for making this outfit popular in the late 1960s.

The family went on to describe Quant as one of the "most widely known fashion designers of the 20th century" and an "innovative figure of the booming 1960s." In 1955, she opened her first shop on the busy Kings Road, where "her avant-garde creative talents made a special contribution to British fashion."

Dame Mary was the daughter of two Welsh schoolteachers and was born on February 11, 1930, in South East London. She earned a diploma in art education from Goldsmiths College in the 1950s. She also met Alexander Plunket Greene, the man who had become her future husband and helped her grow her business at that time. Quant had served as an apprentice to a milliner before starting her own clothing line. She opened "Bazaar," her shop, on Kings Road in the Chelsea district of London in 1955. The 'woman' seamstress, who had enormous influence in the 1960s, is credited for opening up fashion to the general population with her exquisite and eye-catching creations.

After hearing of her passing, Alexandra Shulman, a former editor-in-chief of British Vogue, remarked that Mary Quant was "a leader of fashion, but also of female entrepreneurship, a visionary who was much more than a great haircut," alluding to the short hair that she wore and that was very fashionable in the 1960s.

Furthermore, the London-based Victoria & Albert museum tweeted on its Twitter account that "Quant's influence on fashion cannot be emphasized. She served as a new role model for young ladies and embodied the cheerful freedom of 1960s style. Her avant-garde outlook greatly influences fashion today.
