3-0 victory over AC Milan by Chelsea in a Champions League game

A decimated Milan suffered badly in their tough 3-0 Champions League loss to Chelsea and, more importantly, barely presented a threat up front.

Theo Hernández, Davide Calabria, Simon Kjaer, Mike Maignan, Alessandro Florenzi, Alexis Saelemaekers, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Junior Messiahs, Yacine Adli, Malick Thiaw, Aster Vranckx, and Tiemoue Bakayoko were the 12 players the Rossoneri were missing due to injury and roster limits. Graham Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel after Chelsea fired him, although N'Golo Kante was out with an injury, while Jorginho and Marc Nietorella were only fit for the bench.

Chelsea produced the first opportunities despite Milan having the majority of possession. After a quick counterattack by Mason's montage, Ciprian Tatarusanu was forced to make his first low save, and Thiago Silva's header from a free kick flew just wide of the crossbar.

Thiago Silva's free headers on several successive set pieces paid off since Tatarusanu made saves and Wesley Fofana was the first to react following a six-yard box skirmish.

After throwing to Tatarusanu following a pass and pass, Mount had a charged shot by Pierre Kalulu and was subsequently whistled for offside.

Raheem Sterling was denied a clear shot on goal by a last-ditch save from Tomori, and Fofana left the game with an injured knee.

At the very end of the first half, Milan had a fantastic opportunity when Leao dribbled past four players in the area to set up Charles De Ketelaere. De Ketelaere forced a key stop from Kepa Arrizabalaga with a handball, and Rade Krunic blasted the rebound over the top.

Reece James finished off a cross from the right that neither Fode Ballo-Toure nor Tomori could stop, allowing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to touch in from six yards out and give Chelsea a second goal with a shakier defence.

A third goal came, and once more the young defenders erred by attempting to play from behind. James caught them and shot from a tight angle into the near top corner.

Due to RB Salzburg's 1-0 victory over Dinamo Zagreb, the Austrians lead the group with five points, followed by Chelsea, Milan, and Dinamo, who each have four.

Chelsea 3-0 Milan

Fofana 24 (C), Aubameyang 56 (C), James 62 (C)
