Future DC Films Will Be Headed by James Gunn and Peter Safran

James Gunn and Peter Safran, DC's new heads of television, cinema, and animation, will be in charge of the future of the DCEU.

James Gunn, who directed The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and Guardians of the Galaxy Farm, and Peter Safran, who directed Aquaman, Shazam, and their follow-ups, have been named the new co-CEOs of DC Studios, a new division of Warner Bros. that will replace DC Movies, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

These positions seem to be akin to Kevin Feige's job at Marvel Studios, except with two people instead of one.

Although both are apparently still working as directors and producers, Peter Safran will oversee business operations and James Gunn will oversee the studio's creative side. James Gunn will reportedly be exclusively working for DC for the duration of the alleged four-year contract, which might limit his involvement in upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.

Shortly after sharing the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Trailer, James Gunn verified the report's accuracy on Twitter.

Gunn and Safran said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter that they were "proud to be the guardians of these DC characters that we have loved since we were kids."

We are eager to work with the best screenwriters, directors, and performers in the world to create a rich, integrated universe that still allows for the individual expression of the participating artists.

"Our dedication to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn, and the other DC characters is only matched by our dedication to the wonder of human potential that these characters stand for. As we tell some of the biggest, most beautiful, and best stories ever told, we can't wait to revitalise the theatrical experience around the globe."

This comes after earlier claims that other DC films were being worked on for the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and beyond, including Man of Steel, in which Henry Cavill just confirmed his return as Superman

With this new management, the DCEU may develop a more cohesive universe with more films that might serve as inspiration for LEGO sets, as the cinematic universe did in the past.
