Bournemouth sack manager Scott Parker

Bournemouth sack manager Scott Parker after 9-0 loss to Liverpool.

Bournemouth, newly promoted to the Premier League this season, announced on Tuesday the sacking of their manager, former England international midfielder Scott Parker, three days after a 9-0 defeat at Liverpool.

Englishman Gary O'Neil, a former Portsmouth and Middlesbrough player, will take the reins of the team on an interim basis. Until now he was one of Scott Parker's assistant technicians.

"For us to continue to progress as a team and as a club globally, it is essential that we agree on our strategy to run the club sustainably," Bournemouth owner Maxim Denim said in a statement.

"We must also trust and respect each other," added the businessman of Russian origin, naturalized British.

Scott Parker publicly criticized Bournemouth's management, saying that not enough effort had been made to strengthen the team on its return to the first division.

Parker, 41, arrived at Bournemouth in mid-2021 and led the team to promotion to the Premier League, finishing second in last year's Championship (English 2nd tier).

As a player, Scott Parker went through Chelsea, West Ham, Newcastle and Tottenham. As manager, he primarily managed Fulham between February 2019 and June 2021.

In the Premier League table, Bournemouth is seventeenth, with three points after four games.
