According to the New York Times, Carly Simon lost both of her sisters, Lucy and Joanna, to cancer earlier this week.
On Thursday, October 20, Lucy, a well-known Broadway songwriter and the 82-year-old sister of the You're So Vain singer, passed away following a battle with metastatic breast cancer.
The source also revealed that on Wednesday, October 19, her older sister Joanna passed away from thyroid cancer at the age of 85.
Lucy's performance in the musical The Secret Garden earned her a Tony Award nomination. She also performed in a folk group with Carly. For the album In Harmony, Carly's sister also received a Grammy for Best Children's Recording. Just two years later, in the same category, she received another Grammy.
On the other hand, Joanna was an opera singer. She made countless stage appearances while working as a professional opera singer. She gave up acting in the early 1990s and started working as the arts correspondent for PBS's MacNeil-Lehrer NewsHour. She received an Emmy for her coverage of bipolar disorder and creativity. Peter was another sibling of the three sisters.
Carly Simon is well recognised for her popular songs from the 1970s. These songs are Anticipation, The Right Thing to Do, Mockingbird, and You're So Vain. Sally, who is 48 years old, and Ben, who is 45, are her two children.
Along with Dolly Parton, Eminem, Pat Benatar, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie, and the Eurythmics, Carly will be formally inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in November.
